THE BIG PLAY

This Week’s Biggest Move

⛳ The Arnold Palmer Name Is Going on Nearly 400 Junior Golf Tournaments

IMAGE CREDIT: ARNOLD PALMER JUNIOR GOLF TOUR

On November 3, Bolt Ventures, the family office of Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils managing partner David Blitzer, announced a strategic partnership with Arnold Palmer Enterprises, which preserves and advances the late golfer's legacy, and the Arnold & Winnie Palmer Foundation to launch the Arnold Palmer Junior Golf Tour. The tour plans nearly 400 tournaments in 2027 for boys and girls ages 8 to 18, opening January 2 at ChampionsGate in Orlando. No investment amounts or terms were disclosed.

The partnership arrived after the operating base was in place. Bolt bought the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour on April 9 and the Texas Junior Golf Tour on June 17, said in June that the 2 would combine under a new brand in 2027, and then brought in the Palmer partners and an outside investor group. That is how a tour announced in November already has January events open for registration.

🎯 WHY THIS MATTERS

  • Two Running Tours Make Up the Base Hurricane, a Central Florida tour founded in 2007, hosts more than 300 events a year at 250 courses across 24 states and 3 countries. The Texas tour, founded in Austin in 1989, hosts more than 60 events a year across the state, and its June release credits it with supporting the development of 2 current PGA Tour players.

  • A Complement to the AJGA The American Junior Golf Association has run for about 50 years and has about 150 tournaments this year, according to the AP, which described the Palmer tour as likelier to complement it than compete. Blitzer told the AP that "good business doing excellent things for kids is a wonderful combination."

  • Character Is Part of the Competition Arnold Palmer Enterprises and the foundation joined as partners in the combined tour, and Brodie Waters, president of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, told the AP that Bolt's vision "aligned with what we were wanting to do." The release says character will be part of the competitive experience, through a program the foundation developed with a university partner.

The Bottom Line: The foundation is also introducing the Palmer Foundation Player Access Award to help families with the costs of playing, and the release says more program details will be shared in the coming months. Those details, and who fills the fields at the first January events, are what to watch.
